Get Reel Films wins grant

Get Reel Films would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who supported us and voted over the last couple of weeks on the Suncorp bank back to business site. You helped keep us in the top ten for the first two weeks of the competition and then today I received the call from Suncorp informing me that Get Reel Films had been selected as one of this weeks winners.

The grant will go a long way in helping us to get locally made projects in front of an international audience over the coming months.

We especially want to say thanks to Suncorp bank for running this scheme and supporting businesses like ours who are rebuilding from the January floods. There are still plenty of deserving businesses out there so log onto the site below and vote for your favourite.

'Chris Duke & the Royals' Music video

Get Reel Films would like to thank everyone for yesterdays music video shoot. We rocked it on a sunny, sweaty rooftop car park in West End with Sydney band 'Chris Duke & the Royals'.

'Chris Duke & the Royals' were in Brisbane supporting 'Streetlight Manifesto' at 'The Zoo' friday night then were off to perform on the Gold Coast saturday night after filming with us all day. Despite this hectic schedule the guys put in a high energy performance for the shoot, guided by the videos director Wade Higgins.

If you're a fan of a Ska/Punk/Rock check these guys out.

'Still Waters' publicity shoot.

With 'Still Waters' just weeks away from it's Cannes screening in the Marche du Film, Get Reel Films did a little publicity shoot today with one of the films stars John Maila.

Here's a sneak peak.

John recently got this tattoo done by 'Big El, Samoan Freestyle Tattoo' while in Samoa after filming wrapped on 'Still Waters'.

Headmistress Launch

Get Reel Films was proud to be a part of the very successful launch of 'The Headmistress' salon last night.
'The Headmistress' has set up her boutique salon inside of 'Miss Savage' at Stones Corner in Brisbane.

The Salon is part of a one stop shop for the women of Brisbane who are now able to shop for that new outfit at 'Miss Savage' run by Carmel Savage, get their hair done with 'The Headmistress' Greer Cronin, then top at all off with makeup and lashes in the 'Lash Bar' with Darin Rose.

The salon is also unique in that it offers women a private space in which to have their hair and make up done tucked away discretely in the rear of the 'Miss Savage' store.

To find out more, check out their Facebook page.

Details of our professional photo package from the night will be available on our site soon...

Back to Business.

Get Reel Films attended the 'Back to Business' cocktail function run by Suncorp Bank this evening.

As Queenslands largest business it's good to see a bank supporting it's community and small business owners by touring the states with these events with guest speaker Adam Gilchrist.

A good opportunity also to liaise with fellow business owners in the local community and plan how to support one another as we continue to rebuild.

Also don't forget to vote for Get Reel Films on the Back to Business site below.

Tin God Music

Sometimes when you watch a film and listen to not only the score but some of the featured music by bands, you can't help but get that little tingle down your spine as you experience what feels like a seamless marriage of film, music and lyric.

Such has been the case for me over the last few days as we have been placing songs in position for the final sound mix of Tin God.

We have been very fortunate to find two Aussie bands whose music and lyrics melt effortlessly into the film. Brisbane based Red on Red and The Art of War from Western Australia.

I am looking forward to sharing the final product with audiences soon.

Meisha Lowe's first TV role.

Screening tonight on Channel 9 at 8:30pm is 'Underbelly Infiltration' featuring one of favourite actresses Meisha Lowe. Tune in and check it out.

We first met Meisha on a music video shoot where she showed up three hours early for a minor role. Her eagerness was to pay off however. When the lead actress cancelled last minute Meisha confidently stepped up to take the lead. Her work ethic that week impressed us so much that she has since been featured as 'Kim' in 'Still Waters' and as 'Cindy Spencer' in 'Trente Cinq'.

A great hardworking and good humoured actress. Wish her the best of luck tonight and look forward to seeing more from her in the future.

Still Waters Soundtrack

Get Reel Films is pleased to welcome on board the local artists who have given tracks to the film.

One Year Later, a Brisbane based band has lent two tracks to the film. 'Tina' and 'You're Changing'.

Also adding to the soundtrack is Ofelia Guizzon with a beautiful track titled 'I need your love'.

And finally Tana Smith's track 'Friends' is also featured.

All these artists and their tracks are available for download on itunes.

Flood recovery

Almost a month now since the floods hit and Brisbane is beginning to return to normal.

It is still strange however to see pockets of flood affected homes and businesses all through the city that are struggling to recover.

Around West End where we are based all the businesses, and cafes on the high ground are bustling with life while others just meters away lay dormant, temporarily abandoned as owners struggling with the ongoing clean up.

As for Get Reel Films our original base is still undergoing repairs so we have relocated temporarily to another part of the building, however due to ongoing issues, including a faulty hot water cylinder wish caused us to be flooded again over the weekend, we may soon be relocating.

I will notify everyone if there a change of address.

In the meantime the latest on 'Still Waters' and 'Tin God' though they have been delayed due to the flood they are now progressing so keep an eye out for updates.

I would like to thank all those who offered support and assistance during the flood and I look forward to working with you all again soon.

Brisbane floods.

As we were shooting the trailer for REAP earlier this week the flood warnings started to come in. I would like to say a big thanks for everyone who was on the shoot that day because the very next day many of us found ourselves being flooded in.

GetReelFilms suffered some damage at our West End base and again I would like to thanks those to offered to help with the clean up, fortunately our buildings landlord got in straight away with cleaners to take care of the worst of it.

Equipment and furniture can be replaced, the main thing is that everyone involved was safe. Our thoughts go out to those who have also been affected by the flood and especially those who have lost loved ones.

On a brighter note it was inspiring today to see a small army of people moving through West End to help with the clean up. A scene that has been repeated all over the city and indeed the state. Is great to see people band together in support of one another and offer their hands, help and resources.

REAP trailer

Get Reel Films is set to roll camera today on our latest work, REAP. This thriller was inspired by true events but has been given the Get Reel twist.
The trailer will feature Tana Smith and Shaun Trainer from 'Still Waters' as well as newcomer Bianca Love who has been training with Tom McSweeny on the Gold Coast.

The trailer will be available to view as part of the Optus 180 project.
